Canvas:New Learning Management System
Posted on 06/09/2020

We are excited to announce that Prince William County Schools has adopted the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for all students for the 2020-21 school year.  Canvas is a cloud-based system that allows teachers to post content, assignments, quizzes, discussions, etc. all in one place. All students currently have accounts, although most teachers are not yet using it with their classes. Parents can also create "Parent Observer account", which allows parents to see assignment due dates, announcements, and other course content. Observers can view the course content but cannot participate in the course.

Any parent who desires to get a head start on next school year can create an account, but will first need to get their student’s help.  This is a simple two step process. Please carefully follow the Canvas Parent Account Instructions (parents will need to assist their student with these steps; most students have not yet logged in to Canvas).  Presently courses are not populated in Canvas, but will appear in August.  Hylton teachers have been hard at work learning to use this application, and we will also be assisting students as we move into next school year.  We will advise that for smart devices, students download the Canvas Student app, and continue to use the StudentVUE app (grades & attendance).  Parents should also use the Canvas Student app (works better than the Canvas Parent app) and the ParentVUE app (grades & attendance).

Please contact the Hylton ITC, Shawn Jones, at jonessx@pwcs.edu if you have any questions.
