The various Virginia Governor's School Programs all use a competitive admission process to select participants. Application timelines vary based on the program. Please review the following information carefully. The programs include:

SUMMER RESIDENTIAL GOVERNOR'S SCHOOLS (SRGS)
The Summer Residential Governor's Schools (SRGS) (Academic, Mentorships, Visual and Performing Arts) are month-long residential programs for tenth and eleventh grade students in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Summer Residential Governor's Schools are housed on various campuses throughout the Commonwealth and are funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia and local school divisions.
The SRGS Academic programs provide intellectually challenging and enriching experiences within a community of mutual support, respect, and dedication for a limited number of academically/intellectually gifted high school students. Each college-based program provides a curriculum that integrates subject matter from various disciplines around its overall program theme. Each mentorship program provides challenging work experiences relevant to the mentorship site.
Agriculture (100 students) Virginia Tech (agribusiness, biotechnology, environmental science & its implications, international trade, resource management)
Humanities (200 students) Radford University (anthropology, economics, history, literature, media, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology)
Medicine & Health Sciences (30 students) Virginia Commonwealth University (biology, chemistry, computer science applications, environmental science,forensics, medicine, physics)
Math, Science & Technology (160 students) Lynchburg College(anatomy & physiology, astronomy, computer programming, geology, hydrology, hypermedia, physics, upper-level mathematics)
NASA/Langley Research Center (based on availability) Christopher Newport University(aeronautical engineering, advanced computer science, electrical engineering, material science, mechanical engineering)
VIMS/Virginia Institute of Marine Science (based on availability) Christopher Newport University (coastal law, fisheries, marine resources management, wetlands ecology)
The application process begins at the school level in October. Announcements will be posted in the building and on School Fusion. Students who have questions or who are interested in applying for the 2016 Summer Residential Governor’s Schools may contact Ms. Overton. A information meeting will be held on October 28. Visual and Performing Arts (Radford University)
The SRGS for Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) provides artistically challenging and intellectually enriching experiences. This learning occurs within a community of mutual support, respect, and dedication. The VPA program focuses on process, not upon finished works of art. The program exposes students to a wide variety of experiences in an art form and offers participants opportunities to explore numerous aspects of variety of art forms. Students spend the month interacting with outstanding arts professionals from throughout the country.

Students interested an arts audition must sign up online (see announcement below). The local auditions will take place at Woodbridge High School November 4-5. Students must also complete a preliminary application (see announcement below).
Students in the classes of 2017 and 2018 are eligible to apply for the 2016 programs.
Students interested in the MHS, VIMS, and NASA programs should see Ms. Overton for an application and to discuss the selectiveness of these programs.
Applications for 2016 programs will be posted mid-October. Please make sure your application is typed.
ANNUAL YEAR GOVERNOR'S SCHOOLS (AYGS)
The Governor's School @ Information Park is a partial day STEM program offered for students' junior and senior years. The program gives students the opportunity to work with professionals in STEM fields, conduct authentic scientific research, and earn college credit. The program is based at the Manassas Campus of George Mason University and is a partial day program. Students attend the GS@IP in the mornings and return to Hylton for the last block of the day (6th and 7th period), when they generally take English and social studies courses. Students participate in the program their junior and senior years; applications are due in the winter of sophomore year. Students must have completed Algebra II/Trigonometry by the end of their sophomore year in order to enrol in the program.
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology
Most students enrol in TJHS beginning their ninth grade year; however a limited number of students are accepted sophomore and junior years. This application process takes place in June. See the TJHS website for more information.
SRGS Arts Local Auditions

The preliminary application is used in the case of a tie for local auditions.
