CISL PARTICIPATION AND REFLECTION POINTS
All CISL students are required to submit CISL points from co- or extracurricular activities with an international emphasis. The purpose of this requirement is to expand and intensify their global awareness.
CISL points are awarded for engaging in cultural, social science, world language-based events and activities outside of class time. CISL points can and will always be awarded for engaging in activities planned and organized by the CISL program (ex: CISL tailgate, CISL conference, Oxfam Hunger Banquet, Rise Against Hunger, CISL book club, performances sponsored by the Hylton Performing Arts Center etc.). They are
also awarded for participation in Hylton Clubs and Activities that are related to international affairs, culture, and language (ex: Model UN, Muslim Student Association, Spanish Club, French National Honor Society, Environmental Science Club, etc.). They can be awarded for any and all international travel or the hosting of temporary or year-long foreign exchange students. Finally, they can be awarded for outside events and activities that you attend or participate in outside of these other opportunities that have global, international, and cultural significance.
CISL points are not measured simply by hours. Rather more points are awarded to students for the depth of the experience, so the more students are asked to think and grow and challenge their world view the more points will be awarded for the experience (ex: CISL tailgate is worth up to 8 CISL points but is a two-hour experience plus the time to prepare food). Students also always can submit a paragraph reflection about any CISL point activity to earn additional points!
We use a system known as X2VOL to track CISL points. Although X2VOL uses the terms "hours" for submission and tracking, the CISL system of points IS NOT tied to a specific amount of time spent participating in various activities: # of hours DOES NOT EQUAL # of points. See below for specific point values associated with different types of activities.

· Under Claim Hours Section
- Put the Date of the Activity & for “Hours” put how many “Points” you are requesting
- In this section make sure you upload proof of attendance if it isn’t a school sponsored event
- Ex: if trying to claim points for global travel, we need an image of a ticket stub or picture of attendance there is a section that says Add files as attachments
- Not needed for school sponsored events because we at CISL monitor and sponsors (librarians, club sponsors, and CISL Coordinator) can verify attendance through sign-in sheets, QR codes, event rosters, etc.
- Here is also where you can add a reflection (remember reflections increase your points values)- what did you learn, what challenged you, what did you take away from the experience?
- Under Apply Hours to Goals
-
- Make sure you check the button next to apply to all non-exclusive goals
- Check the box saying that the hours “points” you are submitting are accurate and the details are truthful
Step 9: Hit the submit button
